Political analyst Mohammad Daoud Abedi says British Prince Harry's 'hunting Afghans from the air' during his Afghan mission in the southern province of Helmand bears no resemblance to the way a member of a royal family ought to act. The comment comes as Prince Harry, the third-in-line to the UK's throne, has acknowledged and justified killing Afghan people during his most recent deployment in the war-torn nation. The 28 year-old prince has just finished his five-month second tour of duty in Afghanistan. He said he fired at Afghans from an Apache attack helicopter. Harry revealed this in an interview before he left Afghanistan on Monday. He was seeking to justify his hostility towards Afghans while on duty in the southern province of Helmand. The prince is back home after a five-month tour of Afghanistan as an Apache pilot gunner. A statement on the school's website advised students and faculty to "shelter in place" wherever they are on campus. It gave no details of the shooting situation. The shooting comes only a month after the massacre at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Conn., in which 20 students and six staff members were shot, sparking a wave of attempted copycat crimes in states like California and Indiana. The Connecticut shooting inspired calls from government officials including President Obama for stricter gun control laws.

Ian spoke with author Dan Kurzman about Adolf Hitler's covert plan to invade the Vatican, seize its treasures, and kidnap and kill Pope Pius XII. Hitler had wanted the pope neutralized because he believed the pope was partially responsible for the fall of Mussolini, Kurzman explained, and would eventually denounce Hitler's Final Solution, the Nazi plan to exterminate all Jewish people.

Kurzman learned of this little-known story during a 1974 interview with former SS General Karl Wolff, the man Hitler had ordered to carry out his secret plot. Wolff had worked with Heinrich Himmler to implement Hitler's Final Solution. Specifically, Wolff was in charge of transporting box cars filled with Jews to death camps, Kurzman said.

Wolff was given two weeks to plan his mission to Rome. The plot called for a group of SS officers to infiltrate the Vatican dressed in Italian army uniforms. Kurzman said they were to kill the cardinals, make it appear like the pope had tried to escape and kill him too. According to Kurzman, Wolff (along with a group of high-ranking German officers) decided to sabotage Hitler's plan in an effort to win the Pope's gratitude and possibly save his own life when the war ended.
